I cook at the Busy Chef Kitchen frequently.  It has everything I need; prep area, ovens, grill, stock pot burners, dry storage and a walk in refrigerator.  It’s easy to cook and serve good meals at the Busy Chef.

GETTING STARTED 

In order to use the Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen, businesses or individual cooks must comply with a number of requirements. This section outlines what information and documents are needed to get started at the Busy Chef kitchen. Click on each tab to learn more.

Deschutes County requires us to enforce these requirements very strictly so we recommend you put all this paperwork together in a single folder and bring it with you when you visit the Robertson-Price office for the first time. Without all of the required paperwork, we cannot allow you to work in the kitchen. We look forward to working with you at the Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen.

STATE & COUNTY COMPLIANCE

Obtain A Food Handlers Certificate 

  • Since 1996, all restaurant employees and other commercial food establishment employees are required to obtain a Food Handler Certification Card from the state. Cards are issued after completion of a test that covers procedures for preparing, handling, and storage of foods. The certification test is available online at orfoodhandlers.com.

Obtain A Deschutes County License

  • Every business must obtain their county license. There are several different licenses depending upon the type of food and equipment your business uses. For information on county food licenses, contact Deshutes County Health Department at (541) 322-7400.  Additional information is available on line at Deschutes County Environmental Health.

  • A signed rental agreement that sets out the terms and conditions for using the Busy Chef facility is also required. A blank copy of the agreement is available from Robertson-Price. Stop by the office at 1655 S.W. Highland Avenue in Redmond; or contact Dick Robertson at [email protected] or at (541) 408-2742.

Commercial Kitchen User Handbook

INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

Liability Insurance

  • A minimum of $1 million in liability insurance is required. This is a standard amount required for those conducting business on property they do not own. While cost depends on your specific business, this level of coverage can often be obtained for a few hundred dollars per year. On the policy, Robertson-Price LLC and Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen must be named as an additional insured. We recommend you discuss your specific insurance needs with your insurance agent. If you or your agent have questions, contact Dick Robertson via e-mail at [email protected]  or at (541) 408-2742.

 

DEPOSIT

SPECIAL EVENT USERS:

  • A required and refundable security deposit of $250 is required for special event users for use of the Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen space.

COMMERCIAL KITCHEN USERS:

  • A required and refundable security deposit of $250 is required for commercial kitchen users of the Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen space.

  • An annual membership fee of $100 is required for commercial kitchen users of the Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen space.

COMMISSARY USERS:

  • An annual membership fee of $100 is required for commissary and food truck vendor users of the Busy Chef Commercial Kitchen space.

We had our daughter’s wedding in July and we were so pleased to know Busy Chef kitchen rental was available for us to use. It made the process of cooking 200 Mason jar pies so easy. Everything was user friendly and the owners were amazing to work with.  I would highly recommend Busy Chef.
